Built in 1837, the church is of immense historic importance. The blessed
Fr. Chavara Kuriakose did God’s good work and died here on third January 1871. He was buried in the church here. The rooms of Bl. Chavara are preserved inmaculately , keeping the original furnishings. His tomb is also maintained impeccably. It is a major pilgrim centre now. Bl. Chavara started the forty hours adoration here. It was at this church that the first native women - congregation of the Teresian Carmelites started.
