Notification - 5
Infant Jesus Parish, Ernakulam
With a view to finding a lasting solution to some issues recently cropped up in the Infant Jesus Parish, Ernakulam, we have undertaken with much patience and prayer, various consultations, discussions and dialogue, at different levels, involving representatives of all parties
concerned, through the mediation of various respectable persons.
During this process we came across a few persons spreading false informations and misunderstandings among the public. While ignoring such incidents, our people are warned not to fall a prey to the selfish interests of such persons.
Our aim is only to make our Parish more and more in tune with the Gospel values of fraternity and equality, and with the laws and teachings of the Catholic Church. With these thoughts and objectives in mind, our Archbishop Most Rev. Dr. Daniel Acharuparambil has directed the Archdiocesan Curia to issue the following Directives to all concerned.
1. The Infant Jesus Church, Ernakulam will continue with the established title; “Infant Jesus Parish”.
2. Infant Jesus Parish cannot in any way be considered an exclusively Anglo-Indian Parish. The rights and duties of the Non Anglo-Indian Community, which has an equally long history with the Anglo-Indians in the Infant Jesus Parish, deserve all respect. Any discrimination on the basis of race, caste, colour, etc. is against the Divine Law, the Canon Law and the Constitution of India.
3. The Parish will have a well-defined territory, as demanded by the Canon Law.
4. All the religious, spiritual and pastoral needs of the Anglo-Indian Community will be taken care of with due respect for their traditions. So too, of the Non Anglo-Indians.
5. As to the administration set up of the Parish, like Parish Council, Kaikars and other office bearers, there will be proper repres entation of both the Anglo-Indian and Non Anglo-Indian
communities.
These Directives shall form the basis for a lasting solution for the grievances raised by the Anglo-Indian and Non Anglo-Indian groups of the Infant Jesus Parish, Ernakulam. Other details may be worked out conveniently.
